CGB-EAC-A. John Rogers MALTBY, b. May 11, 1828 (John 6, John 5, Sam.4, Sam.3, Sam.2, Wm.1). m. Jan. 7, 1863, Matilda Mary COOKE, b. Dec. 1, 1841, dau. of C. Norse (sic.). He d. Mar. 21, 1895; his widow d. Mch. 25, 1912. No children.
In 1901, Mr. Anson Maltbie wrote my mother:--"You give me much information about the descendants of John (5) Maltby, (eldest brother of Timothy and Morris.) I met his grandson, John R. Maltby, many years ago in Paris, France (1863) and he told me that if I chanced to go to Constantinople I must see my pretty cousins, the daughters of Dr. Cyrus Hamlin. I had no thought then of going to Constantinople, but I did go there and saw Mrs. Washburn, the lovely daughter of Dr. Hamlin and the Dr. himself and Dr. Washburn, in the spring of 1864. Dr. Hamlin died last summer (1900) 90 years old....Dr. Hamlin was of Roberts College, Constantinople. He died at Lexington, Mass. Dr. Hamlin, in 1900, recalled the boy of 16, who had visited him in 1864."
